VAPRO

In the second half of 2009 VAPRO has started co-operation with vocational schools in Indonesia. The schools provide vocational education programs for youngsters for the professions of industrial operator and laboratory technician. The schools sought co-operation with VAPRO to improve curricula, build a more structural relationship with industry and improve internship.

The co-operation is supported by the Indonesian Ministries of Education and Industry which have launched an offensive to improve the quality of vocational education in Indonesia. Vocational schools should be better equipped to educate skilled and competent personnel for the Indonesian labour market. With their initiative the Ministries expect the Indonesian economy to benefit in two ways: increasing employability of young graduates of vocational schools and a supply of qualified personnel for Indonesian trade and industry.

The co-operation between VAPRO and each school starts with a benchmark to compare curricula, learning resources, teaching methods and assessment with European standards. Recommendations for improvement are based on results of the benchmark. In the second phase we assist schools with adapting their curriculum, with more focus on profession related subjects and internship. During the third phase, the implementation of the renewed curriculum, we assist schools with teacher training programs, learning resources and building a relationship with industry.

The schools which have entered co-operation with VAPRO are: SMTI Yogyakarta, SMAK Bogor, SMTI Makassar, SMAK Makassar, SMTI Pontianak and SMTI Lampung.  SMTI = Sekolah Menengah Tehnik Industri, SMAK = Sekolah Menengah Analis Kemia.
