For over 50 years, we have been recognised by the Dutch Ministry of Education as the Centre of Expertise regarding vocational education, training and the labour market for the process industries. VAPRO’s responsibilities in the Netherlands include:
- Developing qualifications at different levels for youngsters and adult workers in the process industries and laboratories.
- Conducting labour market research on a regular basis.
- Assisting companies and schools to implement competence-based curricula and workplace learning programmes.
- Recruiting training companies and monitoring the quality of these training companies.
VAPRO is accredited as an APL provider by the Dutch Centre for Accreditation of Prior Learning.

Since 1998, we have been assisting new EU members in strengthening their vocational education systems and, in particular, improving the match between the supply of VET programmes and labour market demand. Partners in these projects are Federations of Chemical Industries, Trade Unions, National Institutes for VET, companies and schools. Projects have been carried out in Hungary, Czech Republic, Poland, Slovakia, Romania and Bulgaria, and outside Europe in China, Indonesia and Surinam.
We participate in regional, national and international networks of companies, schools, social partners and governmental organisations to strengthen the VET infrastructure and to combat (youth) unemployment.

We are an active participant in European debates on vocational education and skills development.

VAPRO offers input and assistance with the implementation of policies at the interface of vocational education & training and the labour market, including:
-    Qualification development
-    Competence-based curricula
-    Workplace learning
-    Accreditation of prior learning
